First Report of 2010

Description of sighting

Bad weather and other committments delayed the first visit to Brean Down. The weather was clear and cold with very good views across to the Welsh coast and beyond.Conditions affected what was visible, with only one meadow pipit and no other small birds seen in 2 hours. The usual crows, magpies and blackbirds were present.A single hen pheasant in the gorse was quite a surprise. In the estuary, shellduck and mallard were feeding on the mudflats along with a group of about distant 20 waders, probably Redshank .3 Ravens were very visble and vocal. The feral goats and local rabbits were easy to find.
