RSPB Group visit,good flying display by the resident peregrine and kestrel.Strong winds restricted small bird activity on the down but the smaller birds,particularly goldfinches and stonechats were more active in the sheltered part near Brean Down Farm.A surprising number of swallows were still around.Good views also of the White Park cattle and the Goats.
large number of bird species seen,migrants few and far between due to weather conditions.The young kestrels were quite visible and active and shellduck numbers are begining to build in the River Axe.The cattle and goats were very easily found and provided some good views.Visitor reported some rutting activity with the goats. Singles of wheatear,whinchat,whitethroat and wood warbler were probably the highlights.
Cold damp day,reflected in species seen.On flooded fields near Farm I saw Swans,Shelduck and a solitary
Little Egret.On my way back to the car,20+ Curlew flew in,reflecting high tide conditions.Very large numbers Blackheaded Gulls and a few Herring and Lesser Black Backed Gulls about.There were also a pair of mallard swimming in the Dew Pond,near the site of Cox's Old House
After a very wet evening,the Down had dried out quite well and there were few people initially.On arrival there were two sparrowhawks flying over,closley followed by a heron and a large flight of goldfinches.On the top of the Down,there were large numbers of adult and juvenile stonechats,and a few quite visible wheaters.A young couple and their ferret came by,the ferret apparantly not having spotted the rabbits near the road.In the bushes tere were large numbers of longtailed tits ,a few blue and great tits together with a very vocal robin.Low Tide and the exposed mud showed up the large
fine sunny day,few visitors,stonechat,goldfinch and linnet young birds very evident.buzzard was being chased by crows.peregrine was activley bombing something at foot of the cliff,probably a goat which suddenly appeared in the appropriate spot
high species numbers with some overflying.Pied Flycatcher seen was male
