Black Redstart still giving good views, has been here in Brean Cove since October 2014.Murmuration of starlings, about 1500,displaying in the fields by Brean Farm.Although sunny day,the low temperature and strong winds kept numbers low.
bright sunny day, large flocks of goldfinch feeding on seedheads.Several pairs of stonechat.single dunnock.
Raven Kestrel and Peregrine enjoying the wind
strong winds keeping bird numbers low other than on beach
Exceptionaly windy day determined small number of species seen. Two ravens enjoying the wind,
a single juvenile peregrine was making hard going of the stormy weather
The Down was quite deserted early on and while the majority of birds were our more familiar species,it made me think that perhaps we do not appreciate them as much as we should?
Highlights later were 3 peregrines coming in off Steep Holm, adult and 2 juveniles perhaps?A large family of Long Tailed Tits were taking advantage of the insects in the bushes.Shelduck are gathering in the Estuary and there were a good number of Stonechat willow warblers and blackcap about.
Cold damp day, reflected in species seen.On flooded fields near Farm I saw Swans,Shelduck and a solitary
Little Egret. On my way back to the car,20+ Curlew flew in,reflecting high tide conditions.Very large numbers Blackheaded Gulls and a few Herring and Lesser Black Backed Gulls about. There were also a pair of mallard swimming in the Dew Pond, near the site of Cox's Old House
