Overdue Visit

Description of sighting

The Down was quite deserted early on and while the majority of birds were our more familiar species,it made me think that perhaps we do not appreciate them as much as we should?
Highlights later were 3 peregrines coming in off Steep Holm, adult and 2 juveniles perhaps?A large family of Long Tailed Tits were taking advantage of the insects in the bushes.Shelduck are gathering in the Estuary and there were a good number of Stonechat willow warblers and blackcap about.

Family Visit

Description of sighting

Weather was initially good but became very windy and overcast which had a bearing on the small birds that were around.
Some Swallows and House martins were going through and we had good views of a Wheatear at the Fort. The goats and cattle were also in good view but only a single rabbit! The highligh for the family was clear views of the Ravens and a Kestrel struggling against the wind but for me,a hunting Peregrine was a welcome sight.

Windy Visit

Description of sighting

Overcast and windy morning. The weather had a bearing on what was visible, the smaller birds were experiencing some difficulties in perching and while there was a reasonable ammount of birdsong, sightings were either singles or small groups of 2 or 3.The largest group today were the Linnets. The usual larger birds were in reasonable numbers. There were good views of the White Park cattle now on the Down for the Summer grazing and the resident goats were very visible. A male Stonechat in full colour was a good sight. The Peregrines were having to work hard in the strong winds
