We were unable to find the Ring Ouzel reported on the previous day but that was more than made up for by a very obliging Yellow Browed Warbler in with a mixed flock of small birds including Goldcrest in the bushes near Brean Down Farm. The first Redwing were a bonus as was good sightings of Buzzard,Kestre,Peregrine and Sparrowhawk.Large numbers of Shelduck (650+) were also seen.
Visit to Brean with prospective new Volunteer Wardens brought a good total of species,at least 6 wheatear feeding
on the beach and Blackcap,Willow Warbler and Chiffchaff in the bushes were a bonus as were 2 quite visible Goldcrests
The Down looked a picture this morning once the early mist had lifted, with the bluebells and cowslips
well in flower. The Somerset Rock Rose around the Steps are coming into bloom.Rabbits and Goats
were showing well.
The Whitethroats were back in good number and singing Chiffchaff were visible.Singles of Dunnock Blackcap and Chaffinchas well as a few Goldfinches added to to background.A small flock of Linnet were a welcome sight, with one male well into breeding colours.
Beautiful sunny day with some slight wind.Plenty of birdsong notably whitethroad, blackcap, robin and wren.Pheasant and Willow Warbler were heard but not seen.Very good views of a Spotted Flycatcher in the bushes along the Military Road. The usual high numbers were not seen probably due to nesting and some species moving through
Plenty of birds about despite being cloudy and overcast.Highlights were Wheatear and male Common Redstart.
Songthrush and Skylark could be heard but were not seen
significant groups of goldfinches flying around, jackdaw and crow numbers were high.
